A Taste of Local Sunshine Coast Breweries

Moffat Beach Brewing Co.

Perfectly positioned with views of Moffat Beach, this microbrewery might be small in stature, but punches well above its weight. In 2018 it was awarded the Champion Independent Small Brewery of Australia which is an incredible achievement considering the only place you can sample their beers is at the venue.

Matt & Sharon kicked off the brewery in 2015 and produce a range of beer styles, predominantly hop forward with their IIPA – Iggy Hop having a local cult following which sells out soon after appearing on tap. Producing small batches (350L per brew) the brewery doesn’t currently have the capacity to package any product for wholesale, although there is plans to expand in the near future.

Suggested exbeerience – Tasting paddle with Iggy Hop, Psychotic Girl, Josh Porter Pale, and the seasonal porter or stout which is often poured on Nitro

Your Mates Brewhouse

Two mates who started their brewing dreams in a garage at home, to having other breweries produce their beer under contract, then to gypsy brewing on other breweries equipment, to now opening their very own impressive brewery in Birtinya. It’s now a dream come true.

Christen & Matt started out with a solid recipe for a Pale Ale that soon built a cult following on the Sunshine Coast. Larry, as their flagship beer is known, is a tropical pale ale full of American hops and perfect for the hot Sunny Coast climate. Following Larry came their next beer Donnie Dark Ale, both of which were made available to the public in cans thanks to a successful Crowdfunding campaign. Then came the appearance on Shark Tank, and although unsuccessful it put them under the spotlight and produced the investment they needed to open their very own brewery. Having run successful venues in the past, the new brewery is already a crowd favourite and regularly features live music, has a kitchen with a great range of food, with a tap line up of regularly changing seasonal beers.

  1. Larry was voted #13 in the GABS Hottest 100 beers in January!

Suggested exBeerience – Schooner of Larry, Schooner of Donnie, plus a fresh seasonal brew with a tasty burger

Copperhead Restaurant & Brewery

With one of the smallest breweries on the Sunshine Coast, this hidden gem in the small town of Cooroy still manages to keep 14 beers on tap. A beautifully fitted out venue with exposed brick and timber features, this brewery / restaurant is a stand out for its food offerings as well as its range of beers.
The head brewer Davy has already brewed over 35 styles of beer in the 2 years the venue has been open. Ranging from the tart Guava Sour, to more traditional Pilsner, Pale Ale, Irish Red, IPA, and seasonal Saison and Chocolate Porters – there really is a beer for everyone!

And not forgetting the kitchens offerings with the menu including Stout Braised Lamb Shoulder, Tatake Tuna, Confit Duck, and a range of amazing starters which all pair perfectly with one, or several of the beers on tap.

Keep an eye out for their regular beer and food pairing events which feature seasonal dishes matched with seasonal beers, plus some running commentary from the brewer Davy. Only 20 minutes drive from Noosa, Copperhead makes a perfect road trip for lunch or dinner

Suggested exBeerience – Guava Sour, IPA, Tropical Saison with some seared scallops or the Copperhead Platter

Land & Sea Brewery

The mighty Land & Sea Brewery opened its doors in January 2018 and is one of the biggest in the region with a brewhouse capacity of 1800L, and plenty of shiny stainless fermenters to produce a decent quantity of amber liquid.

Built from the ground up, the new Land & Sea venue is quite impressive with the brewery on show as a backdrop for those who stop in for a drink or a bite to eat, adding to the experience. Head Brewer Shane launched with two variations on lager styles to suit the Noosa climate, and has now added to the range several Pale Ales, IPA, Mango Sour and plenty of rotating taps featuring seasonal beers, all with fresh and unique ingredients.

They also offer food which is described as Gourmet Junk and Fine Vegan, with the kitchen delivering a bunch of options including burgers, pork belly bao, tofu chilli dog, and grazing plates to share.

A recently completed distillery also adds a new element to the venue (and another amazing backdrop) as they continue to provide offerings to suit a wide demographic which is apparent when you look around and notice people of all ages, families, dogs and just the general good vibe of the place

Suggested exBeerience – Thomas Crisp Rice Lager (a collaboration with Thomas Surfboards) a gin cocktail, and a pork belly bao thank you very much!
